Abstract

A moderate religious perspective is a crucial framework for responding to the dynamics of life in an increasingly pluralistic and complex society. Within Islamic tradition, the values of moderation are not only rooted in the Qur’an but are also reflected in various hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, which emphasize the principles of balance (wasathiyah), tolerance, and respect for differences. Nevertheless, several major studies on hadiths related to religious moderation still tend to focus on textual analysis, so attention to their relevance and implementation in social practice has not been extensively developed. Given this context, this article aims to examine narratives of religious moderation in the hadiths and analyze them. How can the values contained therein be realized in inclusive social practices? This study employs a qualitative approach using library-based research methods, involving a search for relevant classical and contemporary hadith literature, as well as thematic analysis to identify hadiths containing elements of justice, tolerance, balance, and respect for diversity in social life. The results show that hadith not only contain teachings of moderation as a normative religious guideline but also offer an ethical framework for the formation of inclusive, dialogical, and harmonious social relationships. Thus, a contextual interpretation of hadith can strengthen the role of Islamic teachings in fostering a moderate religious culture within a multicultural society.
