THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN ENGLISH LEARNING : CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DIGITAL ERA

The use of technology in English language learning has experienced rapid development in the digital era, offering various opportunities and challenges for educators and students. Technology, such as mobile applications, e-learning platforms, as well as AI-based software, has facilitated more interactive, flexible, and personalized learning. On the other hand, access to abundant digital resources increases students’ motivation and involvement in learning English. However, the application of this technology also poses its own challenges, especially in terms of infrastructure availability, digital skills of educators and students, as well as the adaptation of traditional teaching methods into digital formats. Lack of digital literacy among some educators and students can slow down the effectiveness of learning. Apart from that, the digital divide in various regions is also an obstacle in implementing technology-based learning.
This article aims to explore how technology plays a role in increasing the effectiveness of English language learning, as well as identifying the main challenges faced in implementing technology in the classroom. By understanding these dynamics, educators are expected to be able to design more effective strategies to maximize the potential of technology in English language learning, while also overcoming existing obstacles.
