Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of students' learning about mathematical relations and functions through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model at Zainul Hasan Genggong Superior Middle School. The PBL method was chosen because of its ability to increase student engagement and facilitate deeper understanding of concepts. This research uses a qualitative approach with the subject of class VIII students who are involved in learning using the PBL model. The research results show that the application of the PBL model significantly increases students' understanding of the concepts of relationships and functions. Students show improvements in critical and creative thinking skills, and participate more actively in group discussions. In addition, students also reported more enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences, which contributed to their motivation in learning mathematics. From these findings, it can be concluded that the PBL model is effective in improving student learning outcomes in the material of mathematical relations and functions. This research recommends the application of the PBL model as a learning strategy that can be adopted by educators to improve the quality of mathematics learning in schools.
