THE FAMOUS OF “GATE PASSWORD” PROGRAM TOWARDS STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS

This study examines the impact of the "Gate Password" program on students' English-speaking skills at Bhakti Pertiwi Junior High School. The program requires students to recite predetermined English phrases at the school gate, aiming to improve their vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking confidence. Using qualitative methods, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation of 12 students and one English teacher. The findings reveal that 100% of students agreed the program improved their speaking abilities, with 95% feeling more confident and 90% motivated to learn English. However, 70% of the students reported difficulty in memorizing the passwords, and many lacked comprehension of the phrases used. The teacher emphasized the challenge of students' insufficient preparation, resulting in delays during the recitations. Despite these obstacles, the program has had a positive effect on increasing familiarity with English pronunciation, though the improvement in speaking fluency is less significant. The study concludes that while the Gate Password program enhances students' motivation and confidence, it faces challenges in memory retention and comprehension. Future improvements could focus on simplifying the materials and encouraging better student preparation to maximize the program's effectiveness.
