KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS MATEMATIS SISWA SMP DALAM MENYELESAIKAN MASALAH BANGUN RUANG

This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in solving mathematical problems on the material of building space. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study, with the subjects being 25 students of Grade IX at SMP Ahmad Yani Malang. Data collection was done through a written test, which is a description of the material, and interviews designed to measure four indicators of critical thinking skills: interpreting information, analysing, drawing conclusions and evaluating. The results showed that most students, 47.63%, had critical thinking skills in the medium category, 28.57% of students were in the high category and 23.8% were in the low category. Students in the high category were able to fulfil all critical thinking indicators well, while students in the medium and low categories had difficulties in drawing conclusions and evaluating the problem solving procedures they had carried out. These results show that students' mathematical critical thinking skills still need to be improved, especially in the areas of reasoning and evaluation. To improve these skills, more interactive and contextualised learning methods are needed, such as the use of technology and the application of more complex and challenging problems. This study also suggests further research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of different learning strategies in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in the context of mathematical problem solving.
